Did the severe COVID lockdowns make any sense? Did the economic and health problems created by the lockdowns outweigh the supposed benefits? We interview Colorado-based Dr. Paul Prentice, who was the Chief Macroeconomist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture under President Reagan, to understand what happened in his state and how the lessons learned in Colorado can apply to the nation as a whole.

Dr. Prentice explains why we cannot divorce a society’s economic health from the physical health of its people and why it is vitally important to keep the economy running even during a pandemic. We also discuss why the lockdowns were really about societal control and actually had little to do with health.

In the second part of the program, Dr. Prentice explains how the COVID lockdowns were, in many ways, a dry run for “climate lockdowns” to come. How much government control, even for absurd reasons, would the population tolerate in the name of protecting our health? It turns out a great deal, indeed. Unless we effectively push back, this will embolden our leaders to impose even more severe restrictions on our freedom in the name of “saving the planet.”

Dr. Prentice discusses the catastrophic consequences for American citizens of the Biden administration’s energy transition to unreliable and costly wind and solar power and the limits the president is placing on inexpensive, dependable fossil fuels. He also contrasts the stark difference in America’s energy situation under Trump versus Biden. Under Trump, America was, for the first time in many decades, a net exporter of oil. Now, the US must beg for oil from bad actors like Venezuela.

The program ends on a positive note, however. Young people especially are waking up to the nightmares that woke culture is creating, be they COVID or energy related. And, Dr. Prentice believes, Trump is coming back and, this time around will be better able to do what needs to be done to “Make America Great Again” again!

Besides his work under President Reagan, Dr. Paul Prentice served as a Visiting Scholar at the U.S. Department of Treasury. Since leaving the federal government in 1985, Paul founded five businesses. He was an Economic Advisor to the Herman Cain 2012 presidential campaign, and an Economic Surrogate for the Donald J. Trump 2016 presidential campaign.

Dr. Prentice is a retired Professor of Economics and Business at Colorado Technical University, and a retired Fellow of the Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University. He currently serves as an Associate Scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, a Senior Fellow at the Independence Institute, and a Board of Advisors of the Bastiat Society of Colorado Springs. Dr. Prentice earned his B.A. in Mathematics, and his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, from the University of Connecticut.

Join Tom Harris, and guest co-host, Mary-Jean Harris, BSc. M. Sc. (physics), and Dr. Prentice to learn how and why the COVID lockdowns were a disaster and why we should fight against any further lockdowns, whether they be for health or environmental reasons
