Ronald Reagan warned us that we might find ourselves telling our children and our children’s children what it was like in America when men were free. A recent survey of college students showed a dangerous tendency toward intolerance and violence. What could have caused this? I believe this is a symptom of a nation that exalted emotion over reason. And this is only one example of our obsession with emotions. What is the future of America if we continue to place emotions over reason? How can rights be protected when someone’s feelings can supersede them? Have we reached the time when we have to explain what it means to be free to the rising generation? And since our current institutions seem unwilling to teach about reason, rights, and liberty, who will take on this important task?
