A Sputnik Moment
Gen. Mark Milley’s reference to the recent hypersonic missile launch out of China as a near ‘Sputnik Moment’ was an eye-opening statement coming from the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman. Speaking to Bloomberg Television, Milley says, “That’s just one weapon system, they’re expanding rapidly, in space, in cyber, and then the traditional domains of land, sea, and air. And they’ve gone from a peasant-based infantry army, that was very large in 1979, to a very capable military that covers all the domains and has global ambitions. China is very significant on our horizon,” Milley added.
