A World of Hello

Hello. It’s a simple word, isn’t it? Yet, I wonder how much we think about how we’re using it.
This past weekend (Saturday, November 21) was World Hello Day.
Apparently, it’s been running since 1973, though I’d never heard about it before.
According to the website, the annual event was conceived to show people that conflicts can, and should, be resolved through communication and not violence. The idea is that clear, honest communication breeds peace.
Though it initially came out of the pain of warfare, I can’t help thinking we still need to learn those lessons.
And not only to resolve conflict, but simply to maintain that human bond, to share compassion, understanding – to just reach out and show another person they’re not alone.
If you ever read the piece I wrote about dealing with homophobic trolling in the wake of my Dangerous Rainbow TED talk, where so many were urging me to block and report all the haters, I took a different approach.
You see, I firmly believe an awful lot of hatred in our world is borne from ignorance. And though I’m not anti armed forces and understand that, sometimes, tougher measures are necessary, I do believe there isn’t nearly enough readiness to find common ground in the world.
So, for every nasty comment on my social feeds, I replied politely and invited people into a dialogue.
Some, of course, were way too wound up in their hatred and indoctrination to engage, but some entered into conversation with me and we did, indeed, manage to find a new level of understanding and acceptance.
I think we’re sometimes too quick to block. Too quick to hit out. Too quick to dismiss. And that only reinforces the bubbles we all live within.
If we’re not careful, we’re heading for more and more division and fall out, and that cannot be good for us all long term.
So, this week, with World Hello Day just behind us, I want us all to consider the power of such a simple word.
If you come across someone with a different opinion, how about saying hello and actually trying to learn from one another? Maybe there’s a way to find common ground and celebrate the differences, without needing to convert.
Whatever people’s politics, they might be sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, doctors, nurses, careers, feeders, teachers, fishermen, sports fans… they are far more than their voting record. You may have far more in common than in opposition.
Even beyond those areas of potential conflict and disagreement that might be soothed with a little more open-minded, open-hearted discussion, what about all those people you’re connected to and never contact?
Pick up the phone. Get onto social media. Open your email. Whatever you prefer. Drop them a line, just to let them know you’re thinking of them.
Out of the blue? Sure! But World Hello Day gives us the perfect opportunity.
“Hey, Bob. I know we haven’t spoken in forever, but it was just World Hello Day, so I’m just dropping you a line to say hi. How are you?”
“Hey, Alice. We’ve been connected here on LinkedIn for goodness knows how long, and we’ve never spoken. So, as it a just been World Hello Day, I’m saying hello. How’s life treating you?”
Who knows what positive effect that tiny message might have, in a world where so many are feeling worn down by the corona-coaster and everything else.
Hello. Tiny world. Two syllables. Power-full potential.
Get to it!
Until next time,
#UnleashYourAwesome,
Taz

Punching Back with Purchasing Power Against Woke Corporations

Punching Back with Purchasing Power Against Woke Corporations

Why would such captains of capitalism be so eager to unnecessarily anger the conservative half of their politically divided customer base and knowingly hurt their stockholder profits through market losses? Do they imagine that taking a knee to the groins of millions of conservatives in suppressing legitimate state voter integrity protections won’t be noticed?

The Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount in Jerusalem Deception

The Dome of the Rock on Temple Mount in Jerusalem Deception

Tragically, since most of humanity has absolutely no idea of the facts and reality pertaining to the history of the era, they are totally deceived by the perfectly oiled Arab and Muslim propaganda machines, aided, abetted, and stupidly parroted, by most of the Western media, politicians, academia, and clergy. The Muslim disinformation machine incessantly implies that the Dome of the Rock is…

Some Things are Sacrosanct to American Conservatives

In truth, there are no longer two opposite parties, only one, a corrupt one, that has grown so huge that decisions are made not by elected reps, but by those who pay the most money to their voting lackeys. Today it’s the digital technology companies. Their powers have grown so vast they now accept their important role as our censors. The political network today, between government and industry, finds the Constitution to be an annoyance…

Flamed, Roasted, and Ready to be Fired

Flamed, Roasted, and Ready to be Fired

Only now, our journalists seem to be asking questions – despite the entire narrative over everything from Covid to ‘vaccinations’ being about as watertight as the Titanic AFTER the iceberg. And still, nobody seems to be pushing the questioning further than would seem to be proper and agreeable to the Tory press office…

Are Businesses Shrugging a New Economic Virus?

Are Businesses Shrugging a New Economic Virus?

Maybe Walgreens is the first outbreak of a new economic virus: businesses shrugging. Ayn Rand, the author of Atlas Shrugged, compared businessmen and entrepreneurs to the mythic Greek god Atlas who held the world on his shoulders. When the voters and government put too big a burden on the shoulders of businesses and entrepreneurs, her advice was “Shrug.”

Obama-Era Iran Appeasement Under Biden Undermines Trump Middle East Peace

Obama-Era Iran Appeasement Under Biden Undermines Trump Middle East Peace

In addition to supporting Palestinian Hamas, Lebanese Hezbollah, and other Middle East terrorist groups, Iran is also known to have been providing financing for North Korea’s nuclear military program in return for missile technology over at least the past two decades. The JCPOA has funded Middle East Mullah proxy exploits, allowed Tehran to continue to enrich uranium while…

The War on Ending Poverty

The War on Ending Poverty

Unfortunately, the welfare programs created under the War on Poverty prevent those on welfare from working: if someone gets a job, their welfare is taken away. Additionally, welfare is only given to single-parent households, which has incentivized fathers to leave the home. For African Americans, this effect has been particularly devastating – before the War on Poverty, less than 30% of African American children were raised in single-parent households, and now more than 70% are…

Hamas – Israel Conflict Explained in One Picture

Hamas – Israel Conflict Explained in One Picture

One thing is a stark reality, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Muslims have mastered the art of propaganda and deception to levels, so far exceeding those of Goebbels and Pravda; they put them to shame. Regrettably, they have achieved this mastery with the complicit and willing help of the Western media. Here is a must-watch video articulating the Hamas-Israel war with a single picture, one that is worth 100,000 words…
