Samuel Adams said, “No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued when knowledge is diffused, and virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.”
In the 21st century, many Americans are not only tamely surrendering their liberties, but are bending the knee to the growing tyranny around us. Think about how many examples there are of people not only giving in, but pledging their fidelity to the tyrants in Washington, D.C., your state house, and even your city hall. Why is this so?
As Mr. Adams warned us, we have become universally ignorant about our rights and the documents created to protect them. As a nation, we have not only become debauched in our manners, but we are compelling others to endorse said debauchery or be punished. Is it any wonder America is crumbling our own weight? But there is good news. If ignorance and debauchery are the cause of the problems, education and values can be used by the American people to once again pick up our liberties.
