At a day and age when we understand we can get killed in any school or in any work place, now we see that even recreation events are not safe from the random and unpredictable violence of the Active Shooter.
Of course, I’m talking about the gamer event in Jacksonville Florida on Sunday when one of the participants, a 24-year-old kid, lost his second round in the tournament, pulls out a gun and starts shooting.
The actions of this person cost the lives of two innocent people out for a day of video game playing; not to mention the serious injuries to another 10 or 11 people he targeted during his outburst.
The killer, like many before him, then took his own life; he is a coward who left behind a swath of death, pain and anguish.
All of us are left asking once again, why?
Is this phenomenon of the active killer, the random specter of death something we all have to just accept every time we venture out of our homes, or is there anything we can do about it?
I have stated a long time ago that these types of people do not just wake up one day and go on a killing spree, these people have said and done things that we can look at for potential clues to their future behavior.

Irrational behavior, frustrated outbursts, talk of shooting people or anger problems are all some of the outward signs we can see before and outburst. In this case the investigators will comb through his social media, search his computers and go through his personal belongings where he lives, and eventually we may hear about his unstable personality, or his problem relationships, but for now we can only learn from the lessons of this tragic event.
Just as in the terrible shooting at the Las Vegas hotel not that long ago, this mass shooting and murder in Florida make it clear that event security is required anytime there is an event drawing a crowd.
There must be considerations for active shooters, revenge killers, and lone wolf terrorists. Security must be well planned and positioned to respond immediately when one of these killers makes themselves known.
Until then, we must all be aware of our surroundings, and listen to the things people say and do before they erupt in violence. We must be vigilant, we must be aware and prepare…. The next outburst of violence is only days or moments away.
I have been CHASING JUSTICE throughout my career friends. My goal is to be THE VOICE for the voiceless. Reach out with your own stories and thoughts on justice…  [email protected]
