I’ve been told that you know you’re doing great work when the enemy attacks you.
The America Out Loud Network has been a target since our conception back in April 2016. Fact is, that first year at Father’s Day in 2016, I awoke to an Arabic message displayed all over our main website’s front page. It was a day and a lesson I would soon not forget. A terrorist group penetrated us straight out of the Middle East. We had to take action immediately. Since birth, we have experienced a series of attacks, threats, and even death threats.
Our network has grown significantly since that first attack, and so have our security and expertise on how best to protect ourselves. This past weekend, we had another episode that may have been compliments of the CCP. Although difficult to confirm with complete accuracy. They were not able to penetrate our systems. We pushed back hard against the perpetrators. However, they prevented people from getting to the site through an attack known as DDoS – Denial-of-service attack. A denial-of-service attack is a cyber-attack in which the perpetrator seeks to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users by temporarily or indefinitely disrupting the services of a host connected to a network. Denial of service is typically accomplished by flooding the targeted machine or resource with superfluous requests in an attempt to overload systems and prevent some or all legitimate requests from being fulfilled.
Coincidentally, America Out Loud Talk Radio was launching a new show, The Voice of Dr. Yan, on the talk radio network that morning. Dr. Li-Meng Yan joins us, along with Brian, our tech in charge of web security, on this episode of The Voice of a Nation.
The Voice of a Nation can be heard on weekdays at 6 pm ET, with an encore at 11 pm ET. Listen on iHeart Radio, our world-class media player, or our free apps on Apple, Android, or Alexa.
