Working as an interpreter in Afghanistan is a crime. You are considered an infidel, and a servant of the United States. The punishment for the crime, under Taliban rule, is death to the interpreter and possibly family. However, for Fnu Milat, who now lives in America, serving as an interpreter was worth the risk.

Milat was an interpreter for the United States Military serving in Afghanistan for two years. He tells “After Dark” that he became an interpreter to give back to the American troops who came and liberated his country 20 years ago. He was aware of the risk but felt he had to do it.

While he looks back at his service in Afghanistan with pride, he is troubled and deeply disturbed for the safety of his aging parents and siblings. They remain in the country following its fall and take over by the Taliban. He now worries that due to his service in the US military, his family will be harmed, and he is hoping the Biden Administration will help get them out. He has reached out to the State Department, but there has been no answer.

The Afghan native said he couldn’t see how Biden’s team could leave the country in the hands of terrorists along with American weapons that will be used against the people there and possibly Americans. He is very candid with his thoughts about the failed withdrawal of the Biden Administration. He also has concerns over the lack of a vetting process of Afghans coming to America and questions why more Muslim countries aren’t stepping up to receive fellow Muslims.

Fnu Milat is a former interpreter for the US Army. Milat proudly served the United States military as an interpreter from 2012 to 2014. As a little boy, he had always dreamed of helping the United States military and went through all the schooling necessary to become an interpreter. He now lives in the United States.
