There is big money in manufactured outrage. Looking at social media, there is also no absence of gullible subjects willing to fall for the joke. Headlines on mainstream media are already sensationalized, which leads to confusion when a setup and punchline are being delivered by someone that looks reliable. There are individuals that believe that “Baby Mute,” a device to silence your child, is a viable and real product. Others are ready to enroll their chunky toddler into “Toddler Shred.” But these products do not exist. And people’s sense of humor seems to be missing as well. People get triggered.
Brad Gosse is a comedian that has found his niche in creating fake products and stylized children’s books. Brad feels most complete when people are outraged and fall for what he has created. He likes to make you laugh, but he laughs at you when you think he was serious. At this point, he has written over 100 books, which pays his bills. Speaking with him on today’s show, I could not help but connect the outrage to the political spectrum we are immersed in.
Both political sides play to their base and language that is predetermined. The right lately is focused on identity politics and book banning in Florida of sexualized content. Brad is writing books specifically for them. And the left is focused on social injustice and equality, and Brad writes books poking fun at them as well. In the end, both sides are shown their hypocrisy while having a laugh. Many of his books are biting with the truth, which makes the jokes sting a bit more.
