Come Fly The Friendly Skies No More
“Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a bumpy night,” said Bette Davis’ character Margo Channing in the Oscar-winning movie “All About Eve.” That admonition couldn’t be any truer when it comes to traveling by air today. A once relaxing experience has become a semi-war zone in the air.
We have all either heard or seen the horror stories on television of unruly passengers on airplanes. These horror stories are often attributed to many things like passengers consuming too much alcohol before and during flight or the extremely close sitting arrangements in the cabin.
“After Dark With Rob and Andrew” recently spoke with guest Maureen McGovern about an unpleasant experience she had while flying. McGovern said she and her young nephew were the victims of an aggressive flight attendant, who was on a power trip. Although she was compliant with the mask mandate, she said the attendant became belligerent when she wasn’t quick enough in securing the mask around the face of her 7-year-old nephew. She describes the episode as being very “grueling” and “horrifying.”
According to recent numbers released by the FAA, there has been 3,509 unruly passenger incident reported year to date, of that number 2,605 were mask related. The FAA mandates that all passengers on airplanes wear a face mask. While many have asked for this mandate to be relaxed, it doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. As a result, these numbers will probably continue to grow.
