B.1.1.529, the Omicron Variant | South Africa’s health minister announced Thursday the discovery of a new coronavirus variant that appears to be spreading rapidly in parts of the country. “Initially it looked like some cluster outbreaks, but from yesterday, the indication came from our scientists from the Network of Genomic Surveillance that they were observing a new variant,” Minister of Health Joe Phaahla said, stressing that it is currently unclear where the variant — now dubbed B.1.1.529 — first emerged. During a news briefing, genomic scientists said the variant has an unusually high number of mutations, with more than 30 in the key spike protein — the structure the virus uses to get into the cells they attack. We’ll start this Q & A with an update from Dr. McCullough on this breaking news story.

Here at America Out Loud, we are receiving a tremendous number of questions and comments on a daily basis, and are doing our best to get the answers back into your hands. Dr. Peter McCollough will be joining Malcolm Out Loud in the weeks ahead on the Voice of a Nation to bring a series of these highly important Q & A’s to the airwaves. Dr. Peter McCullough is an academic internist, cardiologist, and epidemiologist from Dallas, TX. Dr. McCullough is considered among the world’s top experts on COVID-19 pandemic response.

Here are a few examples of the kind of questions that we will address on the program today, and much more:

My sister just received Regeneron injections; she was supposed to receive the Monoclonal Antibodies infusion. She was told that Brigham & Women’s did not have any available, and instead, they gave her Regeneron. What is this treatment? Is it as effective as the Monoclonal Antibodies infusion?

– How do people with suppressed immune systems (Multiple sclerosis) handle COVID? I cannot find any information anywhere, and we are trying to make the decision whether one of my best friends should have the jab or take his chances with COVID.

What’s the risk of receiving blood from a vaxed person for surgery?

Many of the doctors I listen to have suggested having a nebulizer on hand. I see many different types. Is there any particular type that is recommended over others? Is there any particular brand that performs better than others?

GE is requiring vaccination of all employees that work in government areas. I am going to request a religious exemption. If that doesn’t work, l will lose my job and income. What vaccine would be best? None, but I may have no choice. Is the j&j safer because it doesn’t use the mRNA?

I got covid back in August of 2021. I am unvaccinated, and now two and half months later, my hair is falling out in large clumps. Is this still due to Covid? I was told I have Covid hair. How long will this last as my hair is really thin now? And What should I take to stop the hair shedding?

You recommend blood thinners to prevent clots caused by covid, but I have low platelets (around 100). Which is more dangerous, getting clots or forcing my platelets too low?

The Voice of a Nation can be heard weekdays at 6 PM ET, with an encore at 10 PM ET. Listen on iHeart Radio, our world-class media player, or our free apps on AppleAndroid, or Alexa. You can email your questions to [email protected].

Thanks for doing these! Today at work I talked to a nurse practitioner and explained she should look at the VAERS data on covid shots. That the deaths from this are more than all others over the history of the reporting system. I’m a nursing student just got into a BSN program in CA.

Take care,

Edwin

I had COVID December 2020 and am not vaccinated. After COVID I started to develop an ongoing rash or small patches mostly on my legs, shoulders, and arms. Dermatologist have said it’s Atopic Dermatitis but it continues to break out on a regular basis and I’ve never had anything like this before. Strangely, these rashes or small patches typically occur bilaterally. So, if I develop one on my left forearm, a day or two later there will be one on my right forearm. Is there such a thing as COVID rash and if so, how is it treated?

Friendly feedback… the news ticker on every page of your website is very distracting, I can’t focus on reading anything with it moving/sliding by constantly.
