At family reunions, hands covering our mouths to hide our words, we all whispered quietly about her off to the side and some distance away, so she couldn’t overhear the conversation. We all had one, our very own ‘Crazy Aunt’. While watching the three ring circus that took place on Thursday with the claimed sexual assault victim Christine Blasey Ford I couldn’t help but be reminded of everyone’s ‘crazy aunt’.
As the talking heads on most of the news media outlets weighed in on whether or not Ms. Ford was a credible witness, the real question that came to my mind was wondering whether or not her mama knew she was out by herself.
Though the reality is that she was not at all by herself. Ms. Ford had a couple of lawyers, ten Democrat senators on the Judiciary Committee, most of the news media, and millions of Democrats around the country right by her side cheering her on.
I will certainly concede that Ms. Ford appeared very emotional at times, even tugging at one’s heartstrings. Clearly affecting many of those who might have been viewing, as well as those who are already predisposed for purely political reasons to believe her story.
Her testimony and answers to questions were emotional, confused, halting, and contradictory. A reasonable person watching could be sympathetic towards her while not believing for a second what she was saying. That doesn’t make one a heel, a jerk, or a bad person. It merely means that you value fairness and honesty in the proceedings.
But the reality is that she was either a well-coached and prepared actress of Academy Award stature, or just an individual who experienced a real – or imagined – trauma during her life. A supposed trauma not necessarily perpetrated by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Then again, maybe she’s just that ‘Crazy Aunt Christine’, the hypochondriac relative who constantly asks those around her to look at her warts because she thinks they’re changing color and might be cancer. The aunt who calls the police every time she sees a stranger in the neighborhood because she thinks he’s there to commit a crime. Maybe even break into her house and rape her!
We all nodded and smiled at ‘Crazy Aunt Christine’, humoring her since that was easier than confronting her with the truth. Everyone knew that she wouldn’t believe you anyway. She was convinced that everything she told you was true.
There was one exchange I found rather interesting, and bizarre. It involved her and her husband needing to seek marriage counseling over the installation of a new front door to their home during a remodeling. I am simply stumped at what to say about this tidbit from Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony. Dr. Ford blamed it on the ‘event’ that happened thirty years earlier. Ok, I guess.
On the other hand Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s testimony was direct, crisp, and firm. And his opening statement was fiery, just what the Democrats and Republicans on the Judiciary committee needed to hear. And on top of that it was more than compelling.
Though certainly it had no effect on the Democrats. They’re not concerned about the truth during this process. They’re concerned only about blocking his appointment to the Supreme Court where they fear he will cast a vote that overturns Roe v Wade. For decades now the Democrats have been bought and paid for by the abortion industry.
Judge Brett Kavanaugh more than defended himself during this process. His opening statement alone showed the Democrats for what they are, interested only in political power regardless of the cost to any American citizen’s reputation. No American citizen’s reputation matters to them. From a Supreme Court nominee, to the local janitor at the high school, if one’s political beliefs differ from what Democrats deem as appropriate be prepared for character assassination.
Christine Blasey Ford has my sympathies if she indeed was the victim of what she has claimed. But the facts seem to belie her story, at least with regards to Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
And based on those facts and Judge Kavanaugh’s impeccable record as a judge and as a person, I’m inclined to believe the ‘Crazy Aunt Christine’ who everybody whispers about at family reunions theory. Since I simply don’t want to believe that someone could be so cruel and partisan that she would be willing to besmirch a good man’s name solely for a political agenda.
