The lines are becoming clearer as the COVID-19 pandemic and its attendant crisis continues. The lines I refer to are the political lines drawn to achieve political goals.
Rahm Emanuel, former mayor of Chicago and Hillary Clinton associate once said “Never let a good crisis go to waste”, in other words when things are bad you can really make some hay and do things that you could not normally do. We see this taking place right in front of our very eyes as the congress uses this crisis to feed their special interests and gain advantage over a lot of US Tax dollars at the expense of the American people.
The national shutdown and growing unemployment is beginning to take its toll on America. The president and congress had to step in and take some action to provide some short-term financial relief for the average American. While we might not like the wholesale printing of money to serve this need, we didn’t really have any choice, people have to pay their bills and if the government orders you to stay home from work, then they have to help. So why not a clean bill that expresses our situation and the remedy: we are going to give cash to US citizens to help them through this tough spot, simple.
But no, this is where the politicians betray us by adding billions of dollars of spending to the bill that are not directly related to helping the people. This example alone should be enough to open the eyes of many. Why did we need to give 25 million dollars to an opera house? Or the millions and millions of other boondoggle things they larded up the bill with?
It goes back to Emanuel’s saying – they will not waste this crisis; American citizens be damned. The politics here are brilliant and could be admired if it wasn’t our lives at stake.

The republicans propose a clean bill and the democrats load it up with pork. When the republicans see this, they scream and holler and refuse to support it, the democrats and the biased media can then point fingers at the republicans for not supporting a bill to help the American people.

What response do the republicans have? They end up supporting it, Viola! Just like that, the crisis pays off and money they could not have gotten otherwise is sent right along and the republicans have to answer a million questions about why they were withholding support for the bill. It’s a viscous cycle, but it proves the point.
Now we have the PPP (Payroll Protection Plan) program with delayed funding and there’s not a peep from the media about why that is, about who was holding it hostage – and let me give you a clue, it wasn’t the republicans. By failing to pass this act quickly, it reinforces the growing unemployment as companies have to make decisions about what they can afford. If the PPP was in place and funded, they could keep people working or paid at least, and the “loan” from the PPP would be forgiven. But without the funding there are no loans, no forgiveness and businesses have to lay off people. And the crisis thickens, at your expense.
The hidden agenda here is the same as the FBI wiretapping and impeachment and the Mueller investigation and the Ukraine scam – damage and weaken the president and separate him from those who support him.
This crisis provides an avenue for that as well. There is not a care in the world for the people who are suffering in the USA, the goal is the attainment of power.
History is funny sometimes, in an era gone by, in a foreign land – France, the queen Marie-Antoinette, once said “Let them eat cake” in reference to the suffering of the people she saw as less then herself as she lived in splendor and the people starved in the streets. Her blindness to the realities of what was going on ultimately led to her downfall and a revolution and revealed the vileness of heart she possessed.
I see a parallel here in our time of crisis when Queen Pelosi opened the magnificent refrigerator in her palace and had an abundance of ice cream in every decadent flavor possible and made a joke about it as people in the streets scavenged for toilet paper and food. History is a great teacher, because people don’t change, them or us – read that as you will.

We see a dividing line in the states that want to reopen; if you have a republican governor plans are underway to begin starting up the engine of commerce and getting us back to normal, or whatever will pass for normal after this unprecedented event and shutdown. If you have a democrat governor, they are planning to “Wait” longer before opening up- to keep you safe- as they will tell you.

The question we must ask is about their motive which is where we can see the dividing line.
If the motive is to keep everyone safe by not opening the country yet, and the facts, real facts not media hyped B.S., back that up, meaning it is provable that people will die in huge numbers if we open up before August, then their motive is true and worthy of our support. But that scenario also says that the republicans don’t really care about your safety, they care about money, billionaires and their own interests.
On the other hand, if the facts don’t warrant a continued shutdown and stagnation and continued destruction of the US economy, and I don’t see clearly that they do, then what motive could they have?
Looking at the choices in that way makes the motive easier to see. The current facts don’t tell us that staying shutdown and destroying the economy is the best way forward. The curve has flattened and continues to flatten, which indicates a waning of the virus’ spread and therefore we should begin to reengage the country.
The next question to determine motive is a little more uncomfortable, but as adults we make similar choices all the time. What value do we put on a life? Our friends on the left tell us that opening the economy too soon will endanger lives and lead to more deaths, therefore we should stay closed for several more months even if it means saving one more life.
OK fair enough, seems like life has value, even one life. I know it does to me. But I ask our friends on the left the following⏤follow up. If staying closed and destroying the economy is more important than one more death from the virus, what about closing the borders if it will save one more life of a citizen?
This can be proved just based on the numbers of US citizens that are murdered by illegal immigrants and can be documented. Are those lives or one of those lives worth saving?
We can continue; should we stop partial birth abortion, or all abortion if it will save a single life? We can say with confidence that this will save thousands of lives, albeit it, babies lives.
How about cars? We lose about 30 thousand innocent people a year to car accidents. If we ban cars altogether, we will definitely save one life, if not 30 thousand lives, right?
The examples go on and on, but they make a point, we make choices every day about the value of lives and what we are willing to live with. The psychological experts tell us that the stress of the ongoing economic collapse will lead to more depression, drug use and suicides; clearly a lot more than one life will be lost here.
Based on this fact alone should we not open the economy before you finish reading this article to save those lives?

So, we have a dicey situation here. Should we add up the potential loss of life from the virus if we open sooner rather than later and compare it to the lives potentially lost if we don’t open? Which lives are more valuable?

Not an easy choice, not an easy conversation. Imagine being a hypocritical kind of person and trying to engage in this conversation and make these choices. It is easy to throw around clichés that back your argument, it’s harder to consider them when they don’t back you up.
If saving one life is worth it by destroying America’s economy and our lifestyles and opportunities, then isn’t it equally worth it for the other examples I have provided? I believe I have painted a simple picture and asked reasonable questions, but I fear that many people will lose their composure when confronted by this logic.
Suddenly there will be lines drawn – Keeping the borders open is worth the danger to maintain America as the welcoming place, even worth the one life of an innocent citizen. Keeping abortion plentiful, even after birth abortion, is worth the danger to maintain our choice, even those lives of the babies that will be lost. Suicides and drug abuse deaths might go up, but that’s worth it to ensure we prevent that one more death from the virus! Not a lot of honesty or logic here.
What I think is missing is the natural conclusion and last line of the thinking on the part of those who don’t want to reopen the economy too soon. That line is this: Opening soon will allow the economy and America to regain her foothold and begin to grow again, people will get back to work, not need government largess and care for their families and, worst of all, it will allow president Trump to have another victory and time to say so before the election.
I wish this was not the conclusion I see as the motivation of some parts of our political leaders and parties, but see it I do. In fact, this is a simple conclusion to come to just using the evidence we have seen since Trump’s election.
Who would have believed the FBI would conduct criminal activities against the American people and the constitution?
Who would believe the majority of the free media would adopt the tactics and practices of soviet media in backing one party against another?
Who would believe our US congress would impeach a president against the will of the people and for no legitimate reason?
Crushing the economy to gain politically is not that far a stretch, it is actually the next step in the pattern and points out the dividing line. Which side of the line do you stand on?
