You would think the February 2021 Texas blackout that resulted in $200 billion in damage and about 700 people dead from hypothermia, carbon monoxide poisoning, and other causes would have been a wake-up call to America about what happens when you rely on wind power for your survival. As usual, mainstream media did their best to cover up the role of the state’s over-reliance on their wind power in the disaster.
But any sane person can see that if you power natural gas pipeline pumps and over half of a state’s electricity grid with intermittent wind power, then you are in deep trouble when the wind dies. And, it could have been much worse—Texas came within a few minutes of a total grid failure that could have lasted weeks and killed thousands of people.
But America is no longer led by sane people. Wind power continues to expand across America, with President Joe Biden leading the way. Besides his continued support for onshore wind, on January 12, the Biden administration announced a record-breaking wind lease sale off the coast of New York and New Jersey. The Department of the Interior will oversee six different lease areas that cover nearly 500,000 acres along the New York-New Jersey coastline. As the Associated Press reported, “New wind farms would dot US coastlines under Biden plan.”
None of this makes sense, of course. Wind power is among the least reliable, least environmentally friendly, most dangerous, and most expensive energy sources available today. To help us understand why, we are joined this week by wind power expert, Dr. Howard Hayden, professor of physics emeritus of the University of Connecticut. Professor Hayden is editor of The Energy Advocate, a monthly newsletter promoting energy and technology, which has been running for 26 years. He is the author of the outstanding books listed below.
