The dismantling of Disney World’s self-governance was on the radar for several years. The move grew a wider lens over Florida’s HB 1557, a “Parental Rights bill” nicknamed the “Don’t Say Gay bill” by Disney’s organized protests in hopes of stopping Florida’s legislature and the signing of the bill by Governor Ron DeSantis.

On Wednesday, April 20, 2022, the magical kingdom of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck received a gut punch as the Florida legislators voted 23-16 to dissolve the special zoning districts within the sunshine state by June 1, 2023.
On Thursday, April 21, 2022, the Florida House voted 70-38 to revoke Disney World’s designation as a special tax district which was a privilege they held for 55 years, making its way to be signed by the no-nonsense Governor DeSantis.
For over five decades, Disney usually got whatever it politically wanted as it employs 38 lobbyists in Florida’s capital and is the largest central Florida employer with about 32,000 employees on 25,000 acres in Orange and Osceola counties.

Although liberal naysayers call this smackdown a move of retaliation, the Florida lawmakers and governor consider it a lesson to be learned because of Disney’s political overreach of a misguided and morally corrupt culture challenging the parental rights of children.
Disney started the war on words by stating that the “Florida’s HB 1557, also known as the Don’t Say Gay bill, should never have passed and should never have been signed into law, “Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family and the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country.”
DeSantis stated, “This wokeness will destroy this country if we let it run unabated, “So in Florida, we take a very big stand against that.” “When you’re trying to impose a woke ideology on our state, we view that as a significant threat.”
Had it not been for the (RCID) created in 1967 by state lawmakers to govern economic development and tourism, Walt Disney himself would never have been able to accomplish the privileges or the fantasy world of his namesake.
A pattern of power and control has emerged regarding the brazen entitlement of this California corporate machine; the Walt Disney World enterprise owns a massive network of media moguls.

ABC; ESPN (80% stake); Marvel; Lucasfilm; Pixar; Touchstone Pictures; A&E (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation); The History Channel (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation); Lifetime (50% equity holding with Hearst Corporation); Hollywood Records; Vice Media (10% stake); Core Publishing.
Disney also owns all the Disney television channels, Disney stores, Disney radio stations, Disney parks (including Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris, Disney Cruise Line, vacation-related properties, and parks.
They also own characters and brands throughout the mass media; Star Wars; The Muppets: The Marvel Cinematic Universe; Disney Princesses/Princes (Cinderella, Mulan, Frozen, Aladdin, and The Lion King); The Chronicles of Narnia Franchise; The Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise; Pixar Films-(Toy Story, The Incredibles, and Cars); The Winnie the Pooh Franchise; The Indiana Jones Franchise; Grey’s Anatomy (and other popular ABC shows)
To date, there are also hundreds of individual companies under the Walt Disney Company umbrella.

The district’s boundaries include 4 theme parks; 2 water parks; 1 sports complex, 175 miles of roadway, 67 miles of waterway, the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, an environmental science laboratory where the continuity of water quality is monitored, and electric power-generating & distribution facility, a natural gas distribution system, water and wastewater collection & treatment facilities, a solid waste and recyclables collection & transfer system, plus over 40,000 hotel rooms and 100’s of restaurants and retail stores.”
Looking back over five decades at this once upon a time unassuming project that promised big business through tourism to the state of Florida makes one now question the true political motives and agenda of a more provocative Walt Disney World.
What power sources allowed this little-known Florida law in 1967 to hand over such autonomy to a major corporation?
“The Reedy Creek Improvement Act,” also known as House Bill number 486, is a law introduced and passed in the U.S. state of Florida in 1967 which established the area surrounding the Walt Disney World Resort, the (RCID) as its own governmental authority which has the same authority and responsibilities as a county government.
Over the years, we’ve witnessed political tyranny by the Media giants and corporate moguls who believed they were above the law; it’s unheard of for any mega-corporation like Walt Disney World to wild extreme government power; and it takes special leaders to recognize and take a stand to red flag matters, especially when they involve our children.
