The sudden expansion of unreliable, expensive wind and solar power is threatening the stability of the electrical grid that keeps us alive. We are rapidly moving to a situation where blackouts like those that occurred last winter in Texas will become common across the U.S. leading to the deaths of thousands of people. Dr. Jay Lehr and Tom Harris’s guest this week is Donn Dears, a retired General Electric Company engineer, and senior executive.
Donn Dears spent his career working with power generation, transmission, and distribution equipment, both in manufacturing and service operations. Donn established GE subsidiaries in a dozen countries to service GE turbines and other electric apparatus and was responsible for their operations for several years. He worked with customers in steel mills, from Cleveland, Ohio to Cairo, Egypt, in open pit and underground mines around the US, oil refineries, both here and overseas, as well as nuclear, steam, and gas turbine power plants.
