We are in an extraordinary period of history, with constant threats looming over our breakfast tables as we hear the daily news. Yet many of these threats of catastrophes and impending doom are far away, “invisible,” or very difficult to prove. Most people simply accept the words of those in authority to learn about these distant threats. Those figures of authority, however, often mislead us.

Dr. Patrick Moore has given an illuminating summary of the “fake invisible catastrophes” that the media tell us are threatening the planet. From human-induced climate change to GMOS to polar bears and walrus extinctions, Dr. Moore examines the truth of these claims and cites many leading experts in explaining why these threats are largely imaginary. It is just such threats that activists are pushing onto the public as an excuse to drastically alter our lifestyles.

The book is illustrated with graphs, images, and data charts that are easy to read and well-explained so that the non-expert can follow through with ease. Various sources are cited for readers who would like to do more research and help convince others of the truth about the climate alarm and other important issues.

Of particular interest is the chapter on climate change. The climate alarmist narrative does not hold up under scrutiny, and Dr. Moore delves into various topics such as the science of carbon dioxide as a so-called greenhouse gas and the historical climate record. There are many little-known and illuminating details that are of interest to both those new to the subject and those who have been learning about it for many years.

He shows clearly that the time period in which we currently live, where the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is approximately 415 ppm (parts per million) is by no means abnormal. Indeed, carbon dioxide levels have been much higher in the past, and we are closer to the level at where all plants would die (150 ppm) than we have been for much of the Earth’s recent history.

Dr. Moore thus presents a compelling case for increasing, not decreasing, our carbon dioxide emissions to prevent the mass death of plants and so all life on Earth. Carbon dioxide is responsible for greening the Earth, and plans to reduce this benign gas simply do not hold up under analysis.

Dr. Moore also touches upon his own experiences with the environmental group Greenpeace, which he co-founded but ultimately left due to radicals taking over the group. He also talks about his work in getting Golden Rice accepted for use in the Philippines through the campaign he created called Allow Golden Rice Now. Golden Rice is a GMO with the addition of vitamin A, a key nutrient that many people in developing countries are deficient in. Between one to two million people, mostly children, die from vitamin A deficiency each year. Yet protestors have been strongly opposed to any GMOs, even though large-scale field trials have shown that the rice is safe. Dr. Moore’s work in getting Golden Rice accepted for use in the Philippines (accepted in 2019) is inspirational and will help to end the suffering of many people and hopefully inspire other countries to follow suit.

Ocean acidification is another key topic discussed in the book. The very term “ocean acidification” is misleading, for the average pH of the ocean is above 7, making it alkaline rather than acidic. Although activists tell us that corals are being bleached and the ocean is becoming too acidic to foster life, the oceans have been more acidic in the past with no harm to ocean species. We learn about the buffering capacity of seawater that allows it to maintain a relatively stable pH, as well as the remarkable ability of sea creatures to adapt to changing environments, often very quickly.

Readers will be left wanting to learn more upon finishing Dr. Moore’s enlightening book. We truly get a sense of the environmental fallacies being propagated by the media and governments around the world. I encourage others to read the book and speak up against these issues that are threatening humanity’s livelihood and prosperity around the world.

I would like to conclude with a passage from Dr. Moore’s book regarding the importance of carbon dioxide (CO2):

“By returning some of the carbon dioxides that plants and marine species removed from the atmosphere, and will continue to remove into the foreseeable future, humans can be the keepers of life for millennia to come. Perhaps one day in the distant future every country will join a treaty that sets a quota for their annual requirement of CO2 emissions. We should celebrate carbon dioxide.”

Hope you enjoyed the review. My reviews are completely unbiased. I will be reviewing books on a regular basis and look forward to bringing you a clear and succinct analysis of some of today’s greatest authors. You can find Dr. Moore’s book, Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom, at any bookseller and in the America Out Loud Bookstore.
