The 1990s gave rise to a new holiday, Festivus. Developed as an idea from an episode of the comedy Seinfeld, Festivus is the airing of our disappointments and grievances. Our elected leaders have provided content for today’s episode. The country is polarized and divided, while many want the knuckleheads on the far right and far left to go away so we can restore common sense. What better day to address both the knuckleheads and the politicians than Festivus!
This past year seemed to have an outlandish and/or shocking story that developed weekly. No topic or person was immune to critique. We learned about what each side believes and will support, and we also discovered the breaking points for both sides are more elastic than imagined. From Roe v Wade to the war in Ukraine, division on views was the consistent theme. The country is in drastic need of healing, and Festivus is here to provide the start of the conversation.
While today’s episode is a playful dialogue of our reality, I want to acknowledge something more important, the Holidays. The end of the year is a time for people of various religious beliefs to gather, reflect, and recharge for a new year. To my listeners, new and old, my love and well wishes to you and yours. I will be recharging, getting ready for the New Year, and returning to shows soon. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
