Florida 24th Congressional Candidate Lavern Spicer Wants to Give People Hope
Florida’s 24th District Congressional Candidate Lavern Spicer, a business owner in Florida, is taking on Congresswoman Frederica Smith Wilson. She said, unlike her opponent, she cares for the people in her district and doesn’t just come around when it’s time to vote. Spicer said it seems the only bill Wilson has tried to pass in the House is one to allow her to wear her array of hats while Congress is in session. Spicer, who runs a food bank, said if elected, she will be there for the people, create jobs, help the homeless, single mothers, and senior citizens. She said she wants to give people hope and show that she cares.
During the show’s hot topic segment, Spicer shared with the hosts her opinion on race in America. While she admits racism exists, she said the left are the biggest pushers of racism. Coming from North Carolina, she said, she has experienced racism herself, and a lot of it came from blacks like Rep. Maxine Waters and Joy Reid. In her views, blacks playing the race card are merely doing the work of the Democrat Party. On the police, she said she supports them as they are here to keep us safe.
Lavern Spicer was born and raised in Rocky Mount, N.C. After graduating from Rocky Mount Senior High School, she moved to Miami. She attended Wilford Beauty Academy for Cosmetology, where she graduated in 1985. That same year she met her mentor Cuzzie “Curley” King and began working at Curley’s Beauty Salon at 19. After her mentor died in 1998, she continued operating the business as the owner and also started Curley’s House, a not-for-profit, as a tribute to her mentor’s legacy. Curley’s House provides food for over 5,000 households per month in the Miami area. Spicer has been an activist for the people in the area for over twenty years.
