Detective Kim Frankel was a rising star with the Washoe County, Nevada sheriff’s office and an experienced crimes against children investigator; she was working a case when her unmarked vehicle was struck by a drunk driver. The injuries would change her life forever as she would now become a victim of an incompetent and uncaring bureaucracy known as Worker’s Compensation.

Suffering from a traumatic brain injury and serious concussion, Kim expected that the medical treatment she needed, would simply be provided to her. She was wrong. The sheriff’s department and county denied her the medical treatment she needed, and as a result, injuries that could have been fixed became permanently disabling.

Kim is now working to change the laws that have allowed massive profits by private companies to control the medical care of injured workers. Hear her incredible story in this powerful interview with show host, Randy Sutton.

Lt. Randy Sutton can be heard on weekends, every Saturday and Sunday at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT on The Wounded Blue Hour on the iHeart Radio Network. Find all The Wounded Blue Hour episodes available on the America Out Loud Podcast Network.

I just want to say that I am honored to have worked with Kim. I was her Sergeant for a very short time and in that time, you couldn’t ask for a better patrol deputy. She was a motivated, determined, caring and consummate professional. Kim was in top physical shape and if a suspect ran on her, you would think “Oh that’s a mistake,” because she always caught them. As a supervisor, I never worried or held any reservations about her ability as a cop. Every supervisor, at shift bid, would wish they had her on their shift. I retired in 2012, and I was so proud when I heard she went to Detectives and eventually went to the Crimes Against Children unit. I am so, so angry at what has happened to her! I’m mad as hell for what she has been subjected to!! Kim gave so much to receive so little. Keep up the good fight Kim. I know it’s hard at times, but you got this and I love you very much.
