The mid-term elections are months away, and it seems Republicans stand a good chance of taking both Houses, but the hosts of “After Dark” are cautiously optimistic. Fortunately, they don’t see the left as having a tightly run ship to win in 2022, but they recognize woke liberals will lie and cheat to win. Still, there is hope for Republicans if they would only step out of their comfort zone and start supporting up-and-coming candidates in districts that Democrats have a stronghold in.
Joining the hosts to discuss the midterm elections and what the GOP needs to do to break the Democrat stronghold is Lavern Spicer, Florida’s 24th District Congressional candidate. She is looking to unseat Frederica Smith Wilson. Spicer says Wilson, like most Democrats, has done nothing for the district she is in besides making empty promises. Spicer believes she and other candidates running in 2022 could best many of the Democrats running if the GOP supported them more. She said running in a predominately blue area can be challenging, but she is not giving up as she wants to work for the people and is a fighter. Please find out more about her candidacy on a previous talk.
Lavern Spicer was born and raised in Rocky Mount, N.C. After graduating from Rocky Mount Senior High School, she moved to Miami. She attended Wilford Beauty Academy for Cosmetology, where she graduated in 1985. That same year she met her mentor Cuzzie “Curley” King and began working at Curley’s Beauty Salon at 19. After her mentor died in 1998, she continued operating the business as the owner and also started Curley’s House, a not-for-profit, as a tribute to her mentor’s legacy. Curley’s House provides food for over 5,000 households per month in the Miami area. Spicer has been an activist for the people in the area for over twenty years.
