John Adams wanted a government of laws, not men. He thought this was so important that he actually put that language into the Massachusetts Constitution. Today, however, America seems to be a nation of men, not laws. This can be seen in the expectations that the federal government is responsible for everything in our lives, the abuses of our so-called justice system, and the utter disregard for the supreme law of the land in all branches of government at all levels.

If laws do not mean what they say, then they mean nothing at all. And if those laws are not applied equally to everyone, then the constitutional republic, once described as a shining city on a hill, has fallen into rot and disrepair. Sure, there are examples of the rule of law triumphing over the preferences of man, but they have become so few and far between as to appear like black swans. In the face of this corruption, what can the American people do?
