Isaac is a towering teen in the hallways of his high school. Standing over six feet tall, his hair adds another few inches. His smile lights up the room in a way that you know he is kind and funny. He is an observant teenager. A quiet presence in the classroom until you ask him about his passion. Comics.
A former student, Isaac completed my career pathway last year in Audio, Radio, and Video. I would like to take credit for his immense talent and future success, but this would not be fair to Isaac or those who know him. Isaac has immense drive and passion. He was creating his cartoon, Puppy Tales, long before we met with him as a freshman. And in his third and final year with me, I watched as Isaac completed storyboards and scripts to bring his weekly comic strip to a fully animated and voiced idea.
While other students sat and talked with friends in the cafeteria, Isaac was often found on his tablet sketching ideas and learning how to link frames together. There is a focus and maturity to his work ethic that most do not model in their teenage years. I ran into him in the hallways earlier this year and discovered that Isaac wanted to bring his animated vision to a youtube cartoon web series.
He asked to print his first script, and I was happy to oblige.
I bring Isaac on to the show today because he is looking for support for his dream. Perhaps you know someone in animation, or maybe you may listen and want to offer some assistance. I hope my bold Americans enjoy this glimpse into a high school senior’s hopes and dreams.
