On July 11, 2018, President Trump was in Brussels to meet with North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg, and other NATO representatives. Yet only 10 of NATO’s 30 member-nations paid at least two percent of their annual GDP into NATO’s defense while the United States had consistently been paying four percent of a considerably larger GDP.

By contrast, Germany was paying just over one percent of its GDP. Moreover, they had never met the required contribution despite being one of the wealthiest NATO nations. President Trump noted that Germany was spending billions of dollars helping Russia construct Nord Stream 2, a pipeline that would run directly from Russia into Germany, bypassing Ukraine, Poland, and other countries. Trump questioned why America should remain in NATO if NATO countries were going to continue their dependence on Russian energy.

America and Europe formed NATO to defend against Russian aggression explicitly. Some NATO countries, especially Germany, made Russia rich by dependence on Russian oil and gas. But Russia remains a strategic threat to former Soviet Satellite nations, now NATO members.

Russia is either an enemy or a friend; they cannot be both.

Trump stopped the completion of Nord Stream 2. He also pushed NATO members to contribute $126 billion in delinquent payments. Finally, Trump cleared unnecessary US regulations allowing America to become energy independent and a net exporter of oil and natural gas.

But all Trump’s work to make us energy independent and Europe safe from Russia unraveled with the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States. No sooner than Joe Biden finished his morning inauguration speech, he entered the Oval Office and began signing scores of Executive Orders undoing every favorable energy policy of the Trump administration. This included canceling the Keystone XL pipeline and shutting down new oil and natural gas exploration and production in America. Within months, America became an energy-dependent nation once again. Biden also lifted all sanctions on Nord Stream 2. Thus, he set the stage for Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Biden’s sanctions on our energy industry are not only costing billions more at the gas pumps, but we’re paying more for everything requiring energy; food, heating, cooling, manufacturing, and the like. We’re also at a strategic loss to counter Russia’s aggression in Europe.

Join me as I explain this twisted web of deceit, policy blunders, and the Biden administration’s perverse allegiance to the Left’s Climate Change war against fossil fuels.
