We’ve been lulled into a sense of security by the promises that government will protect us. But is that what governments are designed to do? The Declaration of Independence says, “That to secure these rights; Governments are instituted among Men.” If governments are created to protect our rights, where did we get the idea that their job was to protect us? That is just another empty promise from politicians. While they may have had good intentions at one time, more and more governments have failed not only in their promises to protect us⏤but in their duty to protect our rights.
What will you do when the government isn’t there to protect you? From policies to not enforcing laws to defunding and crippling our police forces, there are many places in America where the government is not fulfilling its promise to protect you. Even where those in government aren’t blatantly leaving citizens without protection, the risk of riots and natural disasters means police may be available when you need them. If you are dependent on government for your protection, are you truly free? What about when government decides you cannot be allowed to defend yourself? While most of us have little control over what government will do to protect us, we are all capable of defending ourselves, not only from violence, but from the shortages and depravations recent government actions have brought to our door.
