Let the War for Unity Begin
The United States of America has become a misnomer. Our nation is anything but united. In fact, I cannot recall a time in American history when we have been more divided than now. Perhaps the Civil War of 1861-1865 comes closest, but the gravity of our current civil divide dwarfs the former in comparison. We live in a crucial time of decision whereby good and evil are in mortal conflict, and it feels like evil is winning big time.
What was once considered sacred on American soil, the belief that a holy and righteous God set forth a standard for us to live by in the words of the Bible, is now subject to mockery and ridicule at every turn in the street. We have become a people with no standard. That which was noble and honorable is called evil, and evil is now highly esteemed by those who could more easily quote from the Manifesto of the Communist Party than recite any of the Ten Commandments. We have strayed far from the beliefs of this nation’s founding fathers; we have failed to heed their warnings. And we are now paying the price.
Who recalls that America’s first higher education institutions, such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton had as their primary academic resource the Holy Bible? Was this for lack of insight? Or could it have been by design? The wisest man ever created by God, King Solomon, declared, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7), and “The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). The teachings of the Bible are prerequisites to wisdom and understanding.
We have long forgotten that the Bible was the primary source of inspiration for those who penned the greatest manmade documents of all time: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
The faith of our fathers in a righteous and merciful and all-wise God gave us our freedom. The one true God of the Judeo-Christian faith is the Author of our freedom. Not Allah. Not Buddha. Not Krishna or any other foreign god. Despite the false claim of our sorely misguided former president, Barack Hussein Obama, America is a Christian nation. When Americans focused on the teachings of Jesus Christ, America flourished. Such is the evidence of biblical history and American history. When God’s people followed God’s ways, the people thrived. The Judeo-Christian Ethic brings with it a high morality and a code of principles that effectively govern the people and leads to peace and prosperity. How far we have deviated from colonial times.
Today, Bible illiteracy is pandemic, and we have forgotten our roots that reached deep into the fertile soil of the hallowed Scriptures. Secularists and foreign religions now have a stranglehold on the church, and because we have forsaken God’s ways, America is dying. Now is the time for us to reclaim our Christian foundation and unite as a one-church body, standing on the true and eternal principles set forth by God Himself. Nothing less will do. Unless we respond to an all-out call to action, the American empire’s decline and fall will be soon penned in history.
But where do we begin? How is unity possible in an era of lawlessness and political upheaval? I surmise that most Americans see neither the urgency nor the means of achieving Christian oneness. We must first realize that unity is possible and that striving for a one-body church should be every Christian’s priority. As our Savior Jesus Christ was on His way to Gethsemane, He prayed to the Father that His disciples would be one, just as Jesus and the Father are one. This oneness is possible only by hearing, understanding, and keeping God’s word. This is precisely what Jesus states in His prayer before going to the cross. Unity must have meant a great deal to Him, and it should to us also. You’ll find this prayer in the Gospel of John, chapter 17. These words are the basis for my book Unity Without Compromise.
The first step in restoring American greatness is acknowledging the God of the Bible as the true Author of our freedom. Matthew 6:24 states, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
The second step is to know God by studying and learning the Bible, for, without the written words of Scripture, we simply cannot know God. However, to achieve the unified Christian body for which Jesus prayed, the Bible must be rightly interpreted. Sound doctrine is a prerequisite to unity. Contrary to popular belief, rules of Bible interpretation are not complex or difficult to learn. But our goal must be to make the Bible say exactly what God intended for it to say; nothing more, nothing less. This takes discipline and requires a pure heart. Unity without compromise—that’s the goal! Freedom and prosperity are its rewards.
