Lies, Damned Lies, and the Mainstream Media
When Barack Obama was President, historians began to say that the United States was entering a post-Constitutional era. What they meant was that the Constitution was no longer regarded by the government of the United States as the foundation upon which the government rested, and that the government had become fully unshackled, such that it could suddenly do whatever it wanted.
Today, historians are saying that we are in a post-truth society, such that ‘truth’ has moved beyond being a provable, knowable thing that we can unite behind, and has become a subjective and abstract concept where we can all have our own ‘truths,’ which can be completely separate from reality ⏤ reality itself now being viewed as subjective and personal.
In a world where there is no foundation of law, and no such thing as objective reality, we are ruled instead by cults of personality. Anthony Fauci perhaps said this most succinctly when he asserted, “I am science.” Science to Anthony Fauci was no longer something subject to a disprovable hypothesis, but is now, rather, whatever Anthony Fauci says.
The global elites no longer use science, but they use the word ‘science’ to great effect, propagandizing much of the public to ‘believe the science’ when what is portrayed as ‘science’ is anything but.
The liberal position on free speech is now that in order to have functionally free speech, the voices of at-risk communities have to be heard, and for the voices of at-risk communities to be heard, those voices must be protected through the censorship from any voice or message that might offend them, which is, of course, whatever speech white liberals do not like.
The way it really works is that white liberals tell ‘at risk groups’ what to say, and then the same white liberals forward the voices of those members of those groups who parrot what the white liberals have told them to say.
If members of those groups really had voices, they would be allowed to contradict what the white liberals tell them to say, and we all know what happens when a member of a supposedly at-risk group gets out of line.
If you are a member of one of these groups, either you say and do as you are told, or the same white liberals who say they want to protect you will destroy you instead.
The only people with any real voice are white liberals, and they look at ‘at risk groups’ not as equals, but as pets.
In this way, ‘free speech’ has become an excuse for censorship.
Allowing everyone to have their own ‘truth’ and separating ‘truth’ from factual reality, allows the left to say whatever they want, with no regard for factual truth. Suddenly we have Robert Reich telling us that a free, uncensored Internet has been the dream of every totalitarian demagogue in history. I’ve even heard supposedly educated people claim that Hitler was a libertarian.
There has never been a totalitarian dictator who was in favor of free speech, free markets, or freedom in general. Freedom is incompatible with totalitarianism ⏤ Robert Reich’s statement is absurd. But the absurdity of the statement does not stop people from treating it as gospel.
Our news sources have abdicated their role as journalists, and are totally on board with this subjective sense of ‘truth’ such that they think it is OK to straight-up lie.
Our media is no more accurate and no less propagandized than North Korea’s, and the reason people like Robert Reich are against free speech is because people like him ⏤ know that a truly free people may choose not to listen to him.
What we have to understand is that our media sees no difference between a lie and the truth. Both are considered subjective – both are considered the same. What matters is not what is said, but who says it. Our political left and our media see the world as one between good and evil, but unlike conservatives who gauge people based on what they do, the left is all-in on an oppression-olympics such that who does something is infinitely more important than what is done. Because of this, the police become the criminals, and criminals become saints. George Floyd, who died of a fentanyl overdose, is compared to Jesus.
Lies are suddenly equal to truths. Narrative is all that matters, and anything is fair game if it fits the correct narrative. Tolerance for immoral behavior has become the only moral virtue, and people like you and me who say that abortion probably should not be the number one cause of death in America (and believe it or not, if abortion were listed as a cause of death it would be the leading cause ⏤ more babies are aborted than people die of heart disease) are lambasted as evil incarnate.
Everything is upside down. It’s an Orwellian nightmare.
But it all ends this November. The great 20th Century historian Will Durant wrote that “it is not the action that we should fear, but the reaction should the action fail.” Will Durant was right: the action of the left has failed, and the reaction against it will be like Pinochet on steroids. Mark my words ⏤ within ten years, I will denounce the political right for going too far with calls for ‘die commie, die’.
Many on the left are becoming conservatives, but they are not traditional conservatives. They keep the hatred the left instilled into them, but they focus that hatred on those who they now know lied. These people, if given their way, will not lead the right to a rebirth of freedom and liberty, but to a tyrannical overreaction toward the left.
We need to be very careful as we win the cultural war, not to lose our souls.
