“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” It was these powerful words of the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution that more or less saved the lives of Mark and Patty McCloskey of St. Louis, Missouri.
Mark McCloskey, an attorney running for Senate in Missouri, joins “After Dark With Rob and Andrew” to share his and his wife’s harrowing story of survival last summer. The attorney said had anyone asked him what he wanted to do before the incident, he would have said, “leave me the heck alone.” He continued and said he never planned on running for political office, but things changed “when God came knocking at my door disguised as an angry mob.” He knew then what he was being called to do.
It was June 28 and July 2 when McCloskey and his wife found themselves having to bear arms to protect themselves and their home against an angry armed mob in St. Louis. Never in a million years did the lifelong residents of St. Louis think they would be defending their basic rights to live peacefully as citizens. Yet, they found themselves doing just that.
The St. Louis native said he was told by members of the mob that they were going to burn down his house and kill him and his wife. When he called the police for help, there was none. His attorney told him to take out any prized possessions and leave his home or risk being killed. It was then he and his wife decided they would not abandon their home or go down without a fight. Thankfully, God’s mercy intervened, and he was able to secure private security thanks to the Trump Administration.
Mark McCloskey was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a life-long Republican. He is an attorney, having received his degree from Southern Methodist University. His running to fill the seat of retiring Senator Roy Blunt. He has never run for political office, until now. He and his wife, Patty, have been married for 36 years and have a daughter.
