The National Security Hour, hosted by Dr. Michael Scheuer and Colonel Mike, took up a number of topics, including one we learned about shortly before air time. That topic was about the Pacific Island nation of Palau, written by the country’s president, David Panuelo, to his senior government colleagues.
In the letter, President Panuelo advised them that China’s so-called research vessel that had been in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone had not been conducting scientific research, but instead was searching for exploitable offshore resources and plotting paths that could be used by Chinese submarines. When a Palau government boat was sent to fully determine what was going on, the Chinese captain provided no information and warned the ship, sailing in its waters, to stand clear. President Panuelo also said he had been surveilled by two Chinese men in Fiji in July 2022, and that he learned afterward that one of the men was a Chinese intelligence officer.
Even more surprising, he also learned that the same intelligence officer had spoken to multiple members of his cabinet and staff without his knowledge. Panuelo also wrote that he had blocked a new ambassador from China to Palau because he found out that the man had been involved in setting up a secret Chinese police station in Australia and Canada.
The Chinese accepted the action, but let it be known that the same man would be sent when Palau elects a new government.
Finally, Paneulo told his colleagues that he had been personally threatened several times by Chinese officials. The Chinese appear to be plotting the takeover of Palau in a manner similar to the one they executed over the past several years in the Solomon Islands.
The other topics we covered today included the Saudi Arabia-Iran rapprochement negotiated by Beijing, the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and what it suggests for Americans, their freedom, their money, and the extraordinary number of Benedict Arnolds who staff the Biden Administration and the Pentagon.
