“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.”
Those words from William Pitt (the Younger) are just as true today as they were when he said them in the House of Commons in 1783. Today we are wracked not only by a litany of “necessities” but demands from the oligarchs we repeatedly elect, all of which seem to require that we give up our rights in one form or another.
The more we give government the power to take care of us, the more we become slaves on their plantations. If necessity is the plea to take away our rights, what is the call that will restore our desire to protect them?
