Novavax was one of the early participants in the U.S. government’s race to develop a Covid vaccine in 2020, receiving $1.8 billion in taxpayer funding from Operation Warp Speed. However, the company struggled for more than a year to get manufacturing in place, and its clinical trial data appeared much later than Pfizer and Moderna.
The Maryland biotech company’s shots are based on protein technology with purified Spike protein in a matrix 5 mcg per dose. The technology differs from Pfizer and Moderna’s shots, which were the first ones using messenger RNA technology to receive FDA approval and have resulted in catastrophic rates of injury, disability, and death. In the Novavax clinical trial experience, there were no hospitalizations or deaths due to COVID-19, and the overall number of deaths was similar between the groups.
Novavax fairly reported several cases of myocarditis and blood clots caused by the vaccine. Importantly, the briefing booklet indicated that the data are old, and they tested Novavax against extinct variants of the virus, and thus we do not know if the product will work against Omicron or its subvariants. Protection against “severe disease” with Omicron is purely speculative and is not expected given the failures of Pfizer, Moderna, JNJ, and AstraZeneca against Omicron.
On the show today, we’ll discuss the latest with Novavax, regaining lost trust with the CDC, and vaccine uptake, and we’ll answer your questions. Here are a few examples of the kind of questions that we will address on the program today ⏤
Pamela – My husband and I had the 2 Moderna shots on 4/21and both got COVID on 2/22. I understand both the shots and the infection give us the spike protein, which damages cells throughout the body. How can we help the body get rid of spike proteins?
Christine – On the subject of Covid Transmission. If you are near someone who has Covid and you do not get it right away. Can you get it after 4 or 5 days from that same person/transmission?
Linda – My 28-year-old daughter just tested positive. 4 days ago, she started to feel sick, with body aches and now a very sore throat. What is the treatment protocol for this present covid? Ivermectin? Gargle with povidone iodine/saline? Zinc, quercitin, vit. C and D? Or is it different now?
Michelle – For a pregnant woman, what adjustments need to be made to your early treatment protocol? I am healthy, 36, and pregnant. Unvaccinated and never had covid (bought into the fear and was really cautious for almost two years). Trying to overcome my anxiety and live more of a normal life again but feel it’s inevitable I will catch Covid. I think I’d push for monoclonal antibodies and fluvoxamine and take extra vitamin D, zinc, and vitamin C. Am I on the right track? Any reassuring data on pregnancy and Covid that you can provide to ease my anxiety?
Deborah – I had covid in Aug 2021. Still don’t have much taste and smell. I did start losing my hair. One symptom I currently have is hot flashes. I’ve already been through menopause, and I didn’t have hot flashes before covid. Could this be a symptom of long-haul COVID?
Jan – Can the Provolone Iodine solution for nasal wash, once mixed, be kept for a few days, or should it be mixed up daily?
John – Could you explain the use of the 1% iodine solution in the nasal passages to stop covid reproduction. How does it work, and why?
Amanda – I have noticed that *every* time I spend prolonged periods of time with a known vaccinated person, I end up getting sick. Scratchy throat and nasal congestion consistently every single time. I have not taken any COVID tests during these symptoms, but I’m starting to wonder if I should. Is it possible for vaccinated individuals to shed spike proteins and cause illness in non-vaccinated or other vaccinated individuals? Is there any new data regarding this realm of potential issues?

FDA MEETING QUOTE: Dr. James Hildreth at yesterday’s FDA meeting. Huh, I wonder too, especially since it’s now been approved for 170+ countries who are now also approving for kids, and US citizens paid $1.8B for it. … “Most compelling thing that I’ve seen today is the data from Novavax…their data seems more impressive to me than the data presented by either Pfizer or Moderna. I just wonder whether it might be timely for the agency to quickly review the data and make a decision to approve”
follow the money. Too many people at FDA are under the influence of Moderna and Pfizer (and J&J) who stand to lose billions if Novavax is in the market.
