Almost everywhere we look, someone refers to the United States as a democracy. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison all warned us about the dangers of democracies, that they are turbulent, dangerous, and never last long. If you want proof of the dangers of democracy, you need only look at the reaction to the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion. Threats, bullying, intimidation, and the likelihood of violence are not an aberration. They are the logical outcome of the idea that the ends justify the means.
