Last Friday’s show featured Chris Michael’s and me discussing pride month and the culture that has become obsessed with making an impression on youth. We spoke with humor and tongue-in-cheek references to keep the topic engaging and fun. The next day I received a text message from another regular on the show, Lefty Lehman. He called our show homophobic and problematic.
The conversation was spirited via text, as I denounced his claim and was insulted by the words he wrote. Labeling an opponent without dialogue is one of the characteristics of a group that argues without applying rationale. Our country seems obsessed with labels of anyone that we disagree with, often applying damaging words that sink careers and dreams.
Inviting Lefty and Michael’s to join me in a thoughtful conversation seemed to be the best solution in line with the vision of the show. We embarked on a courageous dialogue that explored the “why” behind our thoughts, and the “what” we were focusing on. The topics are in-depth and well-defined in sexual identity, expression, and, whether or not sexual morality is of valor.
