We had long thought, in modern times, that man’s inhumanity to man had ceased with the end of WWII and its shocking revelations, but it didn’t. Subsequent genocides have just been ignored. In 1945, we were skeptical to hear the news of Nazi atrocities on Jews, Gypsies, and Seventh Day Adventists, in the millions until the films were produced to confirm it, and we said: “Never Again.”

But, we ignored Stalin’s murders of 30 million of his own Soviet citizens because Russia was an ally against Germany, and there was nothing we could do about it anyhow.

Many Russian soldiers were as shocked and horrified as allied Western soldiers were when they first encountered the horrors of Nazi death camps, but war-weariness and the desire to get on overrode the moral need to bring atrocities to a halt. In the meantime, China’s Mao Zedong, Cambodia’s Pol Pot, North Korea’s Kim Il Sung, his progeny, and others have continued the process of simply killing off their excess citizens, dangerous intellectuals, anti-revolutionaries, and foreign spies with one excuse or another, with enthusiastic alacrity. And now comes Russia, again, not their own people but Ukrainians.

We all knew about and accepted Nazi atrocities because General Eisenhower ordered filming of the piles of corpses, crematoriums, and death camps for posterity. He said people in the future will deny those crimes ever happened. Those films of Nazi atrocities are still seen on our military TV channels today, and I’m sure our governments knew about the horrors of Stalin’s Soviet Gulags, China’s genocide in support of Mao’s great leaps forward, and others.

About the Russians today, especially those who are the conscripts of Putin’s Russian army, mostly peasants, wantonly killing Ukrainian citizens as the evidence out of Bacha, Ukraine appears to show, I have some questions. I believe it was the Russian soldiers who did it, but for this reason, and I quote a former Russian KGB agent’s personal observations of what would motivate a Russian soldier to commit atrocities:

“Inhuman living conditions keep the soldiers tensed like a compressed spring. Daily drilling, shouting, and punishment make them aggressive. They dream only of the day when they can leave the hated barracks walls, if only for a short time. They get the opportunity during exercises; there is no need for drilling, no need for cleaning out hated toilets, and all are equal, both young and old servicemen. They enjoy expeditions even more, as it was during the occupation of Czechoslovakia. They can give vent to aggressive feelings against their enemies, the real cause of their misfortune. It matters little who those enemies are, Czechs, Germans, Poles or Americans. Soviet soldiers fulfill their patriotic and international duty.”

It was permanently impressed on Soviet soldiers that all the difficulties he suffers are the fault of Capitalist Countries who are prepared to launch a new war.” This is still Putin’s KGB police state-controlled world even thirty years after the Soviet Union’s collapse.

This quote came from the pages of KGB Defector Aleksei Myagkov’s book ‘Inside the KGB,’ and it was about Soviet times, but as for the Russian army, nothing has changed much in their military policy and procedures training from then to now. I speak because my training about Soviet intelligence services procedures and the history of who is capable of wantonly killing civilians without question causes me to entertain serious doubts that the common Russian soldier in Ukraine is committing the atrocities we are now seeing without having the threat of a firing squad as his reward if he didn’t.

Enough Russian soldiers have defected to show a changed mood for committing acts of aggression against civilians in a war most didn’t even know they were involved in. I suspect Putin may have FSB (KGB) murder squads responsible for committing these atrocities.

Russia is noted for the ruthlessness of its feared secret police. The Cheka in the time of the Tsars, the NKVD in Lenin’s era, and the KGB in the later Soviet period are all the same. War films with narratives show Russian infantry attacking on foot through deep snow into the teeth of enemy machine guns while the KGB police were behind them with machine guns ready to mow down their own soldiers if they retreated, stopped, or showed fear. That’s how the Russians think.

Today, Russia’s Soviet-era KGB is called the FSB. Except for the name, little has changed. Those KGB/FSB police and paramilitary police units embedded with the army, like Germany’s Einsatzgruppen’s that followed the Wehrmacht into Poland, Ukraine, and Russia during WWII sweeping up undesirables, are the only group capable of carrying out heartless Stalin like killer missions now horrifying the decent world. Putin was one. We can only hope he is the last.

Remember, freedom is the goal; the Constitution is the way. Now, go get ‘em!

It is not Russia’s interest to do these war crimes. Putin specifically gave strict instructions. (Russia did not do carpet bombing like the US in Iraq) Arming the civilians makes them a target of the professional soldiers and causes mass casualties. That is why Zelensky’s decisions caused an outrage

Bullshit, George. The so-called war in Ukraine is nothing more than a police action. Putin became so fed up with the money laundering operation of the American politicians in Ukraine, that he decided to go in and clean it up himself. There are no nor have been any atrocities. Just fake stories of such being propagated by the corporate American media in order to cover for their political masters.
