How much lipstick will Democrats need to change the narrative before November 2022?

Democrats are desperately trying to understand what’s roiling the electorate heading into a brutal midterm environment, Politico, April 5, 2022. HIT Strategies has been conducting weekly focus groups to find out in real-time how Americans are processing events in 2022.

There were some broad takeaways:

— A preoccupation with inflation and crime.
— Exhaustion with pandemic restrictions.
— Cynicism about politics.
— Deep frustration that President Joe Biden and Democrats have failed to deliver on their early promises.
— Sympathy for Ukraine mixed with a lack of enthusiasm for Biden spending too much time and money on the issue.
— Ambiguity about how important January 6 should be for Democrats in the midterms.

When the voters were asked to describe how they feel about how things are going, they responded with words like “exhausted,” “uptight,” “unsure,” “concerned,” and “anxious.”

First, I believe the phrase ‘roiling the electorate’ is self-explanatory and an understatement of how Americans perceive the current economic and political climate. By my calculations, Americans have been through an enormous amount of struggle, drama, and life-changing events over the last two and a half years. Here is the shortlist:

Covid pandemic and lockdowns
Election Crisis and the January 6 flashpoint
The new administration turns back the clock on every Trump policy imaginable
Covid mask mandates and vaccine enforcement
The decimation of the economy – Supply Chain crisis
Russia starts a war with Ukraine
Economic skyrocketing inflation

Americans are now asking just how bad can things go before they get better?

So I ask you, how much lipstick will Democrats need to change the narrative before November 2022?
