Freedom is not free. While that is true, how often do you think about what freedom actually costs? Earlier this week, many of us exercised our duty to vote. Some of us fulfilled our duty to sit on a jury. But behind all of this are the millions of men and women that have sacrificed to defend the Constitution of the United States. Obviously, some have been injured, even killed, and many others had to deal with the horrors of battle. Regardless, each and every one of them was willing to live with little pay, difficult living conditions, and the almost constant threat of being deployed into danger. Americans have set aside this day to remember these men and women, and the first great war that covered the world. We call it Veterans Day.
While the sacrifice of our veterans has helped us live with the freedom we have left, what are the American people doing to help? After all, the head of a spear may be dangerous, but it is the weight of the shaft that gives it power. In the same way, it is the people’s support that gives those soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines the strength to do their job. So make today the day you earn the sacrifices these men and women have made.
