I wanted to use a stronger word in the title of this piece, but propriety prevented me from telling you how I really feel about the Democrats’ and liberals’ arguments on supporting sanctuary cities.
In my way of thinking, and I suspect most reasonable Americans would agree with me, the mere thought of elected officials and community leaders aiding and abetting illegal aliens in violating American federal law is contrary to most American’s sense of justice, not to mention right and wrong.
You see, in America most of us – unless you’re a liberal or a Democrat – are brought up to respect the law and to do our best to abide by it and live within its’ constraints. Or we know we can face real consequences, which could include losing one’s freedom through incarceration in one of our wonderful federal corrections facilities.
Recently I heard a Democrat politician make the argument that having sanctuary cities actually makes communities safer by fostering better cooperation between the police and illegal aliens. Bull crap! (I couldn’t control myself.) It’s long past time for harsher words and straight talk when dealing with lying politicians. Since the facts about sanctuary cities clearly show a different reality.
In the real world in our inner cities and ethnic ghettos, cooperating with the police is a foreign concept. One simply doesn’t do it for any reason. Ask Chicago why most of the shootings and murders occurring in that city go unsolved. (A city run for decades by Democrats by the way.) Witnesses disappear, or nobody saw anything. Even though twenty people might have been standing there watching something unfold right in front of their eyes.
In the countries where most of these illegal aliens come from the police are brutally corrupt. They prey on the citizens as much as the criminals do. And those poor people bring that perception of law enforcement with them when they cross our border and take up residence in our communities.
They simply don’t trust the police. The police are the last people they will go to and report a crime. Where they come from that very thing could end up putting you in jail if the person you’re reporting on happens to be a member of the corrupt police, or belongs to the particular crime faction that is paying off the police for protection.
There’s another reason illegal aliens, or African Americans in the crime ridden ghettos in America won’t cooperate with the police. It’s called self preservation. They know that if they are identified by the criminal element as someone cooperating with the police, they place themselves and their families at risk of retaliation – swift and permanent retaliation – from the criminals and violent gangs. They simply do not trust the police to keep their identity confidential and to protect them from the criminals who control the streets where they live. They know that the police can’t station someone outside the door to their residence, nor escort them wherever they have to go on their daily business.
Democrats and liberals apparently view the world through rose-colored glasses while they sip lattes at their local Starbuck’s, or from within the gated neighborhoods where they reside. It’s either that explanation for their unwavering support for sanctuary cities, or they simply are liars when discussing the realities of the issue.
They know full well that sanctuary cities do not foster cooperation between the illegal alien community and the police, but they need a constant underclass they can hook on government handouts in order to maintain political power. So supporting sanctuary policies regardless of the sad realities on the ground plays into their political calculations.
And who suffers as a result of the Democrats phony compassion? American citizens and those very illegal aliens they claim to care about. Americans are victimized on a daily basis by criminals and gangs in this country illegally. And the poor who are victimized by their own governments and the police back in Central America are now being given a false sense of hope that if they can just get to our border they’ll be able to gain entry, and then all will be roses and rainbows once they cross into the United States.
Just another lie told by Democrats and liberals. Anyone see a pattern here? Democrats and lies? They go hand in hand. Just like the lies being told by Democrats about sanctuary cities.
