As the nation adapts to the conveniences of technology, many willingly place their trust in the government and corporations to take care of them. When 22,000 Denver residents lost the ability to control their thermostats last week, they discovered their smart meters were detrimental to their way of living. The power companies removed the ability to set their thermostat to the comfort level they had grown to enjoy.
As the technological age has deepened, we are begging for more convenience in life and demanding speed and efficiency at the cost of quality. With the demand for higher minimum wages, we are now seeing automated jobs. Businesses seldom lose their bottom line when they add convenience. Consumers lose their privacy and personal choice.
Many were told they needed a vaccine as a convenience to re-enter public life. Now two years later, the convenience has largely been a lie from what was originally stated. It seems anytime someone sells a modern convenience; we should take note of the personal right that may be infringed.
My local utility ultimately dis not allow me to reject a smart meter which I did until such time as the fees to do so were too punitive.
Smart meters were also associated with a rash of fires at one time.
