This inspiring Thanksgiving story is one of two men of vastly different backgrounds creating the bond of brotherhood facing a common enemy, overcoming horrific ordeals to survive, and creating a new life of hope and a future made more meaningful by the struggles and suffering they endured. Host US Navy Commander Rob Green, with guests Mr. Corey Terry, Army Special Forces (ret), and Mr. Muhammad Rafi Nemat, an Afghan translator, now an American citizen, on a special Thanksgiving Day Military Whistleblower Report Radio Show.
Today’s Thanksgiving show highlights the incredible journey of an Afghan translator who sacrificed everything assisting the US Military during the war in Afghanistan. Mr. Rafi Nemat’s commitment to our military and their Oath to defend the US Constitution was helping in the fight against the tyranny of Communism even though the US Constitution did not become Mr. Nemat’s own until 20 years later when he gained his US Citizenship in 2021. Mr. Rafi Nemat is originally from Kabul, Afghanistan. His father was a Colonel who served for 32 years in the Afghanistan Army in order to fight communism. As a child, Rafi had to move to Pakistan temporarily to take shelter from the war in Afghanistan that his father was engaged in, and then in 2000, he came back to Afghanistan to be with his family.
After the United States forces invaded Afghanistan, Rafi decided to serve and joined the American Army in Kabul as a linguist. Initially assigned to work with the 173rd airborne Brigade Combat Team in Kumar and even worked in the deadly Korangal Valley. From 2006-2009 Rafi went to work with US Special Forces in Tagab Valley, Kapisa Province. This was when he met Corey Terry, and the two developed a bond of brotherhood born from the trials of war.
Mr. Terry is a Retired18D Special Forces Medical Sergeant with 25 years of service and is currently a DOD Civilian Employee / Preceptor working in NJ for the Special Operations Combat Medic (SOCM). He served 7 Deployments to Afghanistan; 2 Deployments to Iraq; 3 deployments to Africa; multiple deployments throughout Europe.
After threats and physical violence against his family in Afghanistan, Rafi fled to Russia and then to Kiev, Ukraine, until 2013. In Ukraine, Rafi assisted UNICEF with linguistic support, interviewing Afghan Refugees for a Human Rights Watch report that was published as a book in 2012. After helping with the book, he was kidnapped by Ukrainian Intelligence, where he was tortured, interrogated, and threatened with death. Rafi was given 72 hours to leave the country, which he used to gain asylum to the United States. Rafi made it to the U.S. in March 2013 and was able to find work and eventually started his own Auto Repair and Used Car dealership business.
