Joe Biden said, “The battle for the soul of America is not over.” This much is true, but how will that battle be fought? Will we engage at the ballot box or on the battlefield? If we are fighting for the soul of America, then we should be engaged at the ballot box. We must start by preparing that particular battlefield. We must work to make sure our elections are free, fair, and transparent.
When asked what kind of government they had given us, Benjamin Franklin said, “A republic, if you can keep it.” Many people claim that election integrity legislation is an attack on our democracy. This not only proves the poor quality of civics education, but it also is an answer to Mr. Franklin. If we cannot keep our elections secure, we cannot keep our republic.
