The Democratic Party has abandoned rational thought about climate change. Rather than focus on preparing for the real problems of a continually changing climate, they concentrate instead on the politically correct but scientifically impossible goal of ‘stopping climate change.’ They seem to have flown away to Neverland.
Peter Pan author J. M. Barrie tells us that Neverlands are found in the minds of children. There, with the assistance of fairy dust, Peter Pan can fly and teaches children to ignore their common sense and soar as well. Peter claims greatness, is able to feel danger when it is near and can even imagine things into existence. There is almost nothing the hero of Neverland cannot do, provided he stays childlike.
When it comes to climate change and energy, the Democrats are essentially the same. Reality for them is now more determined by what Al Gore and equally imaginative climate activists say than what real science and observational evidence actually show. That we are as yet unable to meaningfully forecast climate decades in advance, let alone control it, doesn’t matter to the Dems. They simply ignored the fact that every climate prediction the U.N. has made has turned out to be wrong. Humankind has a global thermostat, they imagine.
Dems believe that scientists have Peter Pan-like powers to sense climate danger decades in advance. They dream that today’s global climate models, simulations that utterly failed to forecast the “pause” in warming, provide lawmakers with the unequivocal knowledge they need to enact trillion-dollar energy policies. To back up such extraordinary claims, we are often told that there is a consensus of scientists who agree with the U.N.’s extreme position on climate change. Thousands of well-qualified skeptics are imagined out of existence.
In late 2015, the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) released the report “Why Scientists Disagree About Global Warming.” Authored by climatologist Dr. Craig Idso of the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change in Arizona, geologist the late Dr. Robert Carter, former head of the Department of Earth Sciences at James Cook University in Australia, and physicist the late Dr. S. Fred Singer, emeritus professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia and NIPCC founder, the report totally refutes the claims of climate alarmists. Here is a quote from Amazon’s description of this important document:

“Probably the most widely repeated claim in the debate over global warming is that 97% of scientists agree that climate change is man-made and dangerous, the authors write. This claim is not only false, but its presence in the debate is an insult to science.” With these words, the authors begin a detailed analysis of one of the most controversial topics of the day. The authors make a compelling case against claims of a scientific consensus. The purported proof of such a consensus consists of sloppy research by non-scientists, college students, and a highly partisan Australian blogger. Surveys of climate scientists, even those heavily biased in favor of climate alarmism, find extensive disagreement on the underlying science and doubts about its reliability.”

The Dems have clearly not taken the time to review this easy-to-read report. Here is what they say at the start of their 3,000-word tome “COMBATING THE CLIMATE CRISIS AND PURSUING ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE,” the segment of their 2020 platform dealing with climate change.

“Climate change is a global emergency. We have no time to waste in taking action to protect Americans’ lives and futures. The last four years have seen record-breaking storms, devastating wildfires, and historic floods. Urban and rural communities alike have suffered tens of billions of dollars in economic losses. Dams have failed catastrophically in Michigan. Farmers’ crops have been drowned in their fields across the Midwest. Coastal communities from Florida to New Jersey are facing an existential crisis as a result of sea level rise and stronger storms. Thousands of Americans have died. And President Trump still callously and willfully denies the science that explains why so many are suffering.”

Sounding more like an episode out of Barrie’s fairy tale than a serious platform of the world’s oldest active political party, the Dems go on to describe how they will magically ‘decarbonize’ the nation and bring all activities to zero emissions with power plants leading the way by 2035. Within five years they plan to install 500 million solar panels, 8 million solar roofs along with community solar grids, 60,000 wind turbines, and turn American ingenuity into jobs manufacturing renewable energy solutions.

Leading experts have stated that, if this plan was ever implemented, it would send America back to the standards of living of the days before the Industrial Revolution.

But it is actually far worse than that. The United States’ population has increase over 8,000% since 1790 when it was only 3,929,214. It was possible to feed and house such a small population with 18th century technology but, were such a sudden shift made today with 332,639,000 people (U.S. Census Bureau Projection from 2017), the result would be mass starvation, anarchy and death. The Democratic Party’s idyllic Neverland does not exist in the real world.
Let’s drill a bit deeper into this fantasy.
Silicon Valley businesses and investors have been making billions of dollars off green energy subsidies for decades. Bad bets on renewable energy since the 1970s include direct subsidies, government loans, loan guarantees, tax preferences, lavish grants and regulatory mandates biased in favor of wind and solar power. Yet so called green energy, (it really isn’t) remains an inconsequential source of American energy despite more than $100 billion invested in it through the Bush and Obama administrations alone.
There are niche markets for wind and solar power, but the assumption that current renewable technologies can provide the same energy services that oil, coal and natural gas now provide is a ridiculous, and dangerous, fantasy. America’s $18 trillion industrial economy, pre-virus, cannot be powered with windmills and solar panels unless we can transcend the laws of thermodynamics.
The future of renewable energy is not much brighter than its dismal past. The Department of Energy forecasts its role being no more than ten percent in another decade. Even this small contribution would depend on the multi-billion-dollar federal subsidy described in the Democratic platform. Europe’s pursuit of renewable energy began a decade earlier than ours and proved the need to increase subsidies and raise electric rates. This has been totally ignored in the Dem’s platform.
Germany and England have learned that the more renewable energy they attach to their grids, the more coal they must burn to back up its intermittent generation. If a country or company wants to depend on some amount of wind or solar capacity in their grids, they must have an equal or greater amount of fossil fuel operating on standby at all times ready to take over during the periods of no sun or wind. In the new book “A Hitchhikers Journey Through Climate Change”, the authors refer to this as the “Ciccone/Lehr rule of thumb”.
A few years ago, Google announced it would soon be powered solely by renewable energy. Not long afterwards, they admitted it was a major miscalculation. They learned that transitioning to green power systems would take two to three times more generating capacity to provide the same amount of electricity as a coal or natural gas plant. Google also recognized that these structures require huge amounts of steel, concrete, copper, glass, carbon fiber, many rare earths and large amounts of energy to develop. In spite of this Amazon is claiming each day in TV ads that they will be all renewable within 5 years. They show dozens of whirling wind turbines as the narrator spins the renewable energy yarn.

The practice of fleecing American taxpayers to fund pipe dreams of alternate energy goes back to the late 1970s. The Carter administration spent billions of dollars on the Synthetic Fuels Corporation, one the biggest corporate welfare boondoggles in American history.

Perhaps the biggest delusion of all are the hundreds of thousands of jobs promised amidst the conversion to renewable energy. Despite President Obama’s promise of five million green jobs over a ten-year period if he was elected, only a very small fraction of them materialized. A 2013 study by the Institute for Energy Research found that for the $26 billion committed to Department of Energy loan guarantee projects between 2009 and 2016, only 2,298 permanent jobs were created. That translates to more than $11 million taxpayer dollars spent for every job created.
The Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General examined a $500 million grant to the Employment and Training Administration to prepare individuals for careers in “green jobs”. The report found that out of 80,000 participants, only 8,035 of those trained, found jobs and only 1,033 had retained employment for more than six months.
The chicanery in the green job delusion becomes even more evident when one sees the many jobs counted as “green.” They include EPA regulators, university ecology professors, school bus drivers, bike repair shop clerks and even Washington DC lobbyists working on green funding.
It is fortunate that the Democratic climate and energy platform is completely transparent. If sensible people choose to read it, they will see it is absolute nonsense.
After drinking the poison Captain Hook had intended for Peter Pan, Tinker Bell survived only because children across the world clapped loudly to show their belief in fairies. Activists clearly believe that the climate scare and the renewable energy hoax will also continue as long as Democratic politicians keep clapping. Its time they stopped and let this, the most expensive hoax in the history of science, die.
Portions of this article were excerpted directly from the book “Fueling Freedom” with permission of the authors Steve Moore and Kathleen White. The book is recommended as the very best treatise on American energy yet to be written.
