My guest today is Nurse Michelle, our Nurses Out Loud host on Thursdays. We spend time talking about our personal experiences and learning how to advocate for ourselves, our families, friends, and patients. We share tips with you on how to gather the courage you need to ask questions, demand answers, and move through the hospital hierarchy in an effort to receive the healthcare you deserve. Both Michelle and I have had painful experiences with members of our family who needed extensive medical care that required someone willing to fight on their behalf.
Having firsthand experience with the emotional, physical, and spiritual burden of caring for someone who is sick has revealed another side of the equation that isn’t always discussed, and that is the emotional toll it takes on you, the caregiver. We talk about what it feels like when you feel like you carry the weight of the battle alone, and how it affects those closest to you, like your spouse, and children.
This topic is one that can’t be adequately addressed in a one-hour show, and we will get together again to talk more about how to advocate, when to advocate, how to step away, and when it’s important to take care of yourself.
Nurses Out Loud can be heard on weekdays at 10 am ET. Listen on iHeart Radio, our world-class media player, or our free apps on Apple, Android, or Alexa. All episodes can be found on podcast networks worldwide the day after airing on talk radio.
