Politicians never miss an opportunity to take advantage of ⏤ or create a crisis when needed, by which they can raid the national treasury. Resupplying Ukrainian military resources is the current excuse for Pelosi and Schumer to steal $1.5 trillion into which is included un-legislated earmarks. Republicans ended Congressional earmarks in 2011, or so they thought. Democrats resurrected them in 2020.

Earmarks are the hidden slush funds to buy or pay off politicians with funds they can spend in their districts if they supported this or that piece of Democrat legislation. Well, guess what, because earmarks are back, they showed up in a massive 2,741 page, $1.5 trillion Democrat spending bill neither read nor debated by Congress, in the middle of the night. The bill is laden with pork-barrel spending that nobody outside the club knows about, especially US taxpayers, until now.

Since its release, Senate Republicans, those who care, have reported the massive bill includes more than 4,000 earmarks that total some $8 billion, including $3 million for a Palo Alto, California History Museum.

In the 1960s, I lived in nearby San Jose. Palo Alto is a rich man’s paradise, a city of affluence, expensive homes, and the lair of at least nine Forbes 400 named billionaires. Don’t they have enough juice to build their own museum without Georgians chipping it? Do American taxpayers need to spend $800,000 for “artist lofts” in Pomona, California?

Why is Mahatma Gandhi, the legendary Sahib Indian who managed to evict the British from India, getting a taxpayer-funded museum in Texas? And why is New Hampshire awarded half a million dollars for a ski jump and Rhode Island $1.6 million for shellfish equity, Oh yes, and I forgot, the clambering number of minority black shellfish mongers demands a redistribution of taxpayer funds? Don’t they have a union of some sort?

Our national debt nears a breathtaking $30.31 trillion, a staggering 125.62% of our GDP, meaning our individual debt is around $91,100 per man, woman, and child or almost $242,000 per taxpayer. And this doesn’t include state and local debt which roughly adds another $3.26 trillion to the deficit.

Democrat and Republican politicians simply don’t care that our excessive national debt renders us near helpless to responding to an emergency, a world war, or maintaining economic competitiveness on the world scene. It’s by design! They want us to lose!

I’m not done yet. I don’t know what Nancy Pelosi got, but Chuckie Schumer (D–NY), fearful of AOC taking his seat, made himself one of the big winners in the earmark sweepstakes. He attached his name to 142 different projects, including $1.1 million for a Sullivan County (NY) “Rail Trail,” $3 million for a museum in Brooklyn, and $1.5 million for capital improvements at St. George Theatre. I had no idea a theater there was named after me. When totaled up, that’s not piddly money that American taxpayers and being shaken down for. It adds up to a lot of connivance, waste, and corruption.

Earmarks were recognized years ago as secretive, opaque, and underhanded, like store clerks who tap their tills. Lawmakers are aware that many of those earmarks wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny, and that lays the groundwork for corruption and, worse, the loss of trust in government, if any was left.

Earmarks have come around again because most of the new crop of politicians don’t know the squalid history of Congressional bribery. The leadership uses earmarks to avoid the rules of transparency and as a form of political currency that they use to buy votes for their favorite projects, a “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours” sort of thing.

This 2,700-page bill was rushed through both Houses of Congress only days after the text was unveiled. No website tracking those earmarks is available; no process exists for connecting what lawmaker is robbing the till. Because of crooked Democrats, transparency no longer exists without a court order or lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch or some similar organization. Our options for truth-seeking are getting less and less as more is officially hidden from us or we are accused of being, pick one: Nazis, racists, homophobes, Islamaphobes, or worse, Trump supporters.

Remember, freedom is the goal; the Constitution is the way. Now, go get ‘em!
