It’s a battle of words to the finish line pitting Mitch McConnell, the minority leader of the House, against venerable former President Donald Trump. The latter has proven his staying power, with candidates he supported during the primaries, winning. Now the real test is whether they prevail in a general election. With McConnell seemingly throwing water on possible wins, Trump has come out swinging against him.
The hosts of “After Dark” agree with Trump that McConnell should be supporting the candidates instead of pronouncing doom and gloom. Trump can only do so much. It is now up to the candidates, with the support of the GOP leadership, to get behind them and help soldier home a win. The hosts feel that McConnell and other Republicans like Dan Crenshaw of Texas are doing the party a disservice in attacking the candidates instead of supporting them. Should Trump candidates lose, the country loses. It would be in the best interest of the party to set aside differences and get on board the Trump train.
