Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) tells us that:
“Pennsylvania is the birthplace of commercial oil production, thanks to Colonel Edwin L. Drake. Drake drilled the first well specifically intended to produce oil in Titusville, Pa., in 1859. His success launched a global industry upon which most of our modern lives depend.”
Pennsylvania is blessed to lie in the heart of the Appalachian basin, where, in 2004, the discovery of the Marcellus shale in Washington County led to the widescale development of organic-rich shales a mile or deeper.
But all this is now under threat from opportunistic politicians who are bowing to environmental extremists who want to end the state’s use of its magnificent fossil fuel resources. Leading the surrender is none other than current Pennsylvania governor, Tom Wolf. Writing in the Pittsburgh-based Trib Total Media, energy expert Gordon Tomb, Senior Fellow with The Commonwealth Foundation for Public Policy Alternatives and senior advisor for the CO2 Coalition, explains:
“After a protracted battle with lawmakers, Gov. Tom Wolf’s unilateral push to join the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) now moves forward. At-risk are tens of thousands of jobs, including private union jobs held by people that contributed to his reelection in 2018. It’s a strange reality amid the growing disconnect between politicians and blue-collar workers.”
Join Gordon, Jay, and Tom this week to learn how Pennsylvania, once the state renowned for advancing America’s energy independence, is now sliding into an energy disaster that will hurt all its citizens. Tomb concludes, “The slide will continue unless Republicans manage to win an important court case or elect a Republican governor this fall.”
