Anti-nuclear activists tell us that radiation is always dangerous, no matter how small the dose. This, the Linear No Threshold (LNT) model, is clearly wrong. Through a phenomenon known as hormesis, experts in the field show in an increasing number of well-structured experiments that low levels of radiation are not only not dangerous but actually beneficial. Yet, Wikipedia still reports:

“The scientific research base shows that there is no threshold of exposure below which low levels of ionizing radiation can be demonstrated to be harmless or beneficial. The health risks – particularly the development of solid cancers in organs – rise proportionally with exposure,” says Richard R. Monson, associate dean for professional education and professor of epidemiology, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston.

In our program this week, we discuss with nuclear radiation expert Dr. Jerry Cuttler, the serious problems with this sort of assertion. Dr. Cuttler discovered evidence of the low leukemia rates of Hiroshima atomic bomb survivors who were located 2 to 3 km from ground zero. He and his colleagues also discovered that Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease patients might be treated successfully with brain CT scans. Since 1995, Dr. Cuttler has collaborated with renowned medical scientists in many studies on the health effects of ionizing radiation and has authored or coauthored more than 70 articles, mostly in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Cuttler was president of the Canadian Nuclear Society from 1995 – 1996 and was employed by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited from 1974 until 2000 in the design, construction, and operation of about 25 CANDU reactors in Canada and overseas. He is a University of Toronto engineering physics graduate and received his M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in nuclear sciences at the Israel Institute of Technology.

Join Dr. Jay Lehr, Tom Harris, and guest Dr. Jerry Cuttler in this week’s episode of The Other Side of the Story to learn what researchers are discovering about this exciting field and how listeners can help bring light to a field that has for too long been darkened by political correctness and dishonesty.
