A recent Associated Press-NORC poll found that a majority of those polled do not think the federal government is doing a good job protecting your rights. The Declaration of Independence says that we institute governments to protect our rights. Doesn’t that mean that the primary purpose of the federal government is to protect our rights?
This is just a poll; it just shows how those polled felt at the time. And without knowing the actual questions or the context in which they are asked, we are limited in our ability to vet the results of this poll. But it made me think if the poll results are accurate, what does that say about America today? Is there justification for the American people not trusting the government of the United States to protect their rights? More importantly, what does it say about the American people that we not only hire people who are failing at protecting our rights, be we keep hiring them over and over again?
