A teacher shortage started trending ten years ago, and with a pandemic, numbers have accelerated across the country. The profession has been attacked by politicians, and many educators are feeling unappreciated. Salaries are stagnant, and many teachers must work two or three additional jobs to provide for their families.
Our politicians have no problem funding a military-industrial complex around the world to bomb in the name of freedom. Our athletes are signing deals worth hundreds of millions. YouTube and social media influencers are making millions. And the privatized world is paying six-figure salaries. Why are educators still making under $100,000 after 30 years in the profession?
We do not value teachers. We value false gods and idols. And our country is upside down as a result. If we want to ensure our students have the best education, we should invest in it meaningfully. No teacher should have to spend a single penny from their salary on school supplies. No educator should need to be subjected to harassment that would not be tolerated in any other profession.
Across the country, teachers are preparing for a new school year. It’s time we stopped perpetuating myths about educators and started backing them. A better Teacher equals a better student. A better student equals a better America.
