According to multiple polls, Americans are unsatisfied with the duopoly of the government. Republicans and Democrats are disappointing voters, and they are becoming disenfranchised by the political banter. The duopoly runs on a platform of disparaging the other party while losing focus on the core matters that were once important to legacy voters. The Republic is answering polls stating, they are ready to vote for a third party.
Over the past three elections, the Libertarian party has been changing from within. They have developed from a party that represented the framers of the Constitution, to a party uniting others on single-issue voter concerns. There may be no other party as well positioned in 2024 to make a sincere leap forward in representation in the United States.
My guest today is Mike ter Maat. I was introduced to Mike while I was reporting in the nation’s capital. Immediately I could see he was a man who carried himself with charisma, intelligence, and a keen sense of humor. He was likable and relatable. I discovered he was also one of the Libertarian candidates for President in 2024. He is seeking their nomination, and I could see why he would be successful.
Mike has his doctorate in economics from George Washington University, but previously received a BS in aeronautical engineering and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His employment has led him to teach at three Universities, and he served as a police officer in Florida from 2010 through 2021. His career has included working for the White House Office of Management and Budget, international development agencies, federal agencies, and trade associations. In short, Mike checks a ton of qualification boxes.
My interview today asks Mike about what a Libertarian president may look like for those that may feel uncomfortable about moving from the traditional Republican and Democrat Choice.
Would you elect a third party?
