Jack Phillips, a cake artist out of Colorado, has been fighting LGBT activists for 11 years now over his refusal to make wedding cakes for gay couples. Last Thursday, Colorado’s Court of Appeals ruled he must bake a transgender celebration cake or face legal consequences. Back in 2018, the Supreme Court ruled in Phillips’ favor, in a very narrow ruling which allowed for a transgender activist to file another suit against Phillips that demanded he makes a transgender celebration cake.

Phillips’ case isn’t the only one dealing with this in the great state of Colorado, a web designer, Lorie Smith, is also currently fighting a similar legal battle over refusing to take on gay clients for her Christian wedding website design business.

These legal cases shouldn’t be complicated; all we need to do is look at our Constitution and the First Amendment in our Bill of Rights, which states:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

I don’t care if you agree or disagree with Phillips and Smith; we all must respect and appreciate their right to practice their faith. I am proud of them for standing up for what they believe in. We have a first amendment for a reason. The Constitution is clear; there shall be no law that prohibits the free exercise of religion.

The problem we have is that, over the past couple of centuries, many brilliant attorneys were paid by their clients to find loopholes within the plain language of our Constitution. When the court’s rule recognizes loopholes, the next attorney comes in and expands it.

Ultimately this process continues until we get to the point where the original intent of the Constitution is lost. This problem is exacerbated when the SCOTUS is asked to decide a case and rules narrowly to avoid conflict like they did in Phillips’ 2018 case.

The free exercise clause of the Constitution is clear and obviously applies here. Forcing a Christian that does not believe in gay marriage to support it with his or her work is an obvious violation of their ability to freely exercise their faith. Let me ask it this way for those on the left, would you be okay forcing an Islamic cartoonist to draw a depiction of Muhammad?

Absolutely not. It would clearly violate their religious beliefs. The law is clear, and you simply cannot force religion, you cannot force faith, and you cannot force people to ignore their faith or religion.

We see this loss of recognition of Constitutional basics in the courts everywhere, and the breakdown in the even application of the law is becoming obvious. Somehow, we have come to a point where lawyers are being hit with sanctions for filing suits questioning the integrity of our elections, yet lawyers fighting insane cases like these that are so blatantly unconstitutional are not.

We now see our government is talking about passing laws that prohibit doctors from sharing their opinions on the death jabs, laws on hate speech, and laws that violate our citizens’ freedom of religion.

We are in this fight for freedom, I don’t care how we get there, and who dances in the in-zone; all I care about is getting our freedom back. We all need to fight this tyranny and corruption in our courts like Phillips and Smith; I believe that we the people, will see victory if, and only ⏤ if we all keep fighting.

It’s quite simple….Do what Christ would expect you to do, bake the cake with love and joy and celebrate the love of one to another, for it NOT a sin. Perhaps that is too simple for a “follower of Christ?”
